More than 350 thousand people are food insecure in Zambézia province, due to cyclone events, announced Cláudia Lopes, director of Policies and Planning at the Technical Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security (SETSAN).
Data cited by Radio Mozambique indicate that more than four hundred thousand children, under five years of age, suffer from acute malnutrition in that province.
The figure places Zambezia, as the second province with a high malnutrition rate, after Nampula.
The Secretary of State in Zambézia, Judite Mussácula, defends the massification of the nutritional education campaign, aiming at reducing the high rate of malnutrition in the Province.
For his part, Michael Chimedza, UNICEF representative in Zambezia believes that the creation of the provincial Nutrition Security Council will contribute to the improved implementation of actions against malnutrition.
