The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Zambezia have arrested four individuals accused of vandalizing and setting fire to homes, allegedly because the owners are responsible for the cholera outbreak in the region.

The incident occurred in the town of Magige, in the district of Guruè, where four homes, two of which were set on fire and the rest totally destroyed.

According to RM, this is the second case of popular unrest in less than a month in the district of Guruè due to the cholera outbreak.

The spokesman for the provincial command of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Zambézia, Sidner Lonzo, said that the prompt intervention of the police officers had prevented the loss of human life.

"These homes were destroyed because their owners were being accused of spreading the cholera vibrio; they are the homes of the neighborhood secretary and a house belonging to the multipurpose agent of the local health center," he said. (RM)
