The Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) in Zambézia province has already issued all the credentials requested by the Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium to observe the electoral process from tomorrow, October 9, the day of the general elections.
Last week, the group of civil society organizations announced that it was taking legal action against the CPE for failing to issue credentials for its election observers within the legal deadlines.
The consortium had requested the accreditation of 279 election observers, but only 45 had been accredited, citing logistical issues. This attitude was considered unacceptable.
According to STVIn order for the consortium to be accredited, the Chief Prosecutor in the province had to intervene. The information was confirmed by the consortium.
Mais Integridade will observe the voting day process across the country.
"In order to assess whether voters' choices will be respected and reflected in the election results and whether the process will take place in accordance with the law and the international commitments made by Mozambique, the Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium will observe the entire Voting Day process, from the opening of the polling stations to the posting of the notices, in all 161 districts of the country with a total of 1,900 observers," reads a statement from the institution sent to the Mozambican press.
