At least six people lost their lives and four were slightly injured as a result of a road accident at around 8pm yesterday, Tuesday, in the district of Nicoadala, Zambezia province.
According to the spokeswoman for the Provincial Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Zambézia, Belarmina Henriques, the accident involved two vehicles, one heavy and the other light, which were traveling from Namacurra to Quelimane.
Quoted by Sunday newspaperBelarmina Henriques points to speeding as the cause of the accident, saying that "at the scene of the accident the heavy goods vehicle was stopped to let three other vehicles pass, and when it restarted the driver felt a bang on the back of his truck".
"He went downstairs to find out what was happening and realized that a light vehicle was underneath his car," he added.
The injured victims were immediately evacuated to Nicoadala District Hospital for medical attention.
