Xi Jinping denounces "cold war mentality" in the world

Xi Jinping denuncia “mentalidade de guerra fria” no mundo

Chinese President Xi Jinping today warned of the advance of a "Cold War mentality" and the risks of intimidation in international relations.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping's statements were made during the 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, held in Tianjin, in northern China.

Quoted by the international press, Xi said that nations must oppose the Cold War mentality and confrontation between blocs, as well as intimidation.

In his opinion, there must be a new "fair and orderly" world order, accompanied by a more equitable model of international governance, at a time when armed conflicts and trade disputes are on the rise.

In front of leaders such as Russia's Vladimir Putin, India's Narendra Modi and Iran's Masoud Pezeshkian, Xi criticized the policies of confrontation between blocs and reaffirmed the central role of the World Trade Organization as the backbone of global trade.

As a concrete gesture, Xi announced financial aid of 239 million euros to the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Although not military in nature, the organization is seen by analysts as a counterweight to the influence of NATO and the United States in the Eurasian context and more representative of the interests of the Global South.
