American actor Will Smith turned to his social media to apologize to comedian Chris Rock for slapping him after Rock commented on Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's appearance on Sunday night (27) during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony.
Analyzing his reaction before the audience and the world, Will Smith wrote on Instagram this Monday that his behavior was "unacceptable and inexcusable."
"Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Oscar ceremony last night was unacceptable and inexcusable," Will Smith began by writing.
Moving on, the actor acknowledged that jokes about you are part of the job.
"[...], but a joke about Jada's [his wife] medical condition was too heavy for me to bear, and I reacted emotionally," he wrote.
Analysis completed, Smith apologized to Rock.
"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of my mind and I was wrong," it reads.
That night, Will Smith raged that Chris Rock had commented on the shaved-head condition of Jada Smith, who suffers from a disease that causes hair loss.
After Smith hit him, Rock said, "Will Smith just hit me...".
Will Smith even said, twice, "keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth".
When he accepted his Oscar for Best Actor, he apologized to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as well as to his fellow nominees. At that moment he did not mention Chris Rock's name.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Chris Rock has refused to file a criminal complaint against Will Smith.
