One car crashed into three others and knocked down the wall of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Maputo Central Hospital. No fatalities were reported at the scene, but there was one minor injury and extensive material damage.
The accident happened at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, when a car traveling from Avenida Kim II Sung towards Avenida Agostinho Neto crashed into three parked cars in front of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Maputo Central Hospital.
Information that reached MZNews states that the driver of the car was a policeman from the High Individuals Protection Unit of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique. Before crashing into the three vehicles, he hit two other vehicles on Avenida Mao Tse Tung. The driver had a high percentage of alcohol in his system, 0.8%.
Witnesses at the scene suspect that speeding was the cause of the accident, which caused one minor injury.
The wall of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Maputo Central Hospital was partially destroyed.
"The biggest damage was this: the wall was partially destroyed. What we'll be doing over the course of the week is collecting data based on the expert opinion of competent people," said Oliveira Pinoca, the HCM's director of communications and image.
For the time being, the management of the country's largest health unit guarantees that it will reinforce security at the site until the destroyed fence is restored. (O Pais)
