Roads: Government needs 8 billion for roads

Around eight billion meticais is how much the state needs to finance projects in the roads sector, as part of improving accessibility on the stretches affected by the calamities.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hélio Banze, said that the money was intended for the rehabilitation and maintenance of 8,784 kilometers of roads, 23 bridges, eight pontoons and 14 aqueducts.

Speaking yesterday in Maputo at the opening of the Annual Evaluation Meeting of the Integrated Road Sector Program - PRISE 2022, Banze said that from last year to the first quarter of 2023 there had been work on 529 kilometers of access roads to production areas, out of the 635 planned.

The source also added that during the same period, work was carried out on National Road Number One (EN1), on the Chissibuca Lindela stretch, in Inhambane, covering 120 kilometers.

he also recalled the investment of 310 million dollars for the construction and rehabilitation of more than 600 kilometers of road in Zambezia province.
