The Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, discussed last Friday night in New York, United States of America, the post-election tension that has plagued Mozambique since October and has already caused more than 100 deaths.
The meeting between the two took place during Verónica Macamo's visit to New York, as part of the end of Mozambique's term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
According to a Sunday newspaperDuring the talks, in addition to exchanging thanks for the support and collaboration between the parties, António Guterres encouraged Mozambique to give priority to dialogue, without neglecting compliance with the law in order to resolve the post-election tension in the country.
After the meeting, Verónica Macamo said that the UN secretary-general expressed some optimism that the problem would be solved, given the experience that Mozambique has shown, especially in resolving differences by prioritizing dialogue.
