Venâncio Mondlane doesn't recognize results of 2024 general elections

Venâncio Mondlane não reconhece resultados das eleições gerais de 2024

The presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, does not recognize the centralized results of the October 9 general elections presented on Thursday (24) in Maputo by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

The results give an advantage to the Frelimo party (195 seats in parliament) and its candidate, Daniel Chapo (70,67%). The Podemos party (31) won second place in parliament. Venâncio Mondlane (20,32%) was the second most voted presidential candidate. Renamo (20) and Ossufo Momade (5,81%) followed in third place. The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (4) and Lutero Simango (3,21%) took fourth place.

"We reject outright the results presented by Dom Carlos Matsinhe. They are false, adulterated, lying, fraudulent, cheating results. They are not results that reflect the will of the people. We reject, outright, categorically and absolutely, the results presented...", he said.

Mondlane believes that the CNE has violated the electoral law, which stipulates the publication of minutes and tabulation notices.

"The CNE didn't present any public notice, it simply made a projection saying how much each party got," he said, and accused the CNE of perpetuating vote-stealing for more than 30 years.

He clarified that the CNE is at the service of a parallel agenda, because it identified electoral irregularities and deliberately chose to let them pass, "because of the pressure to present the results".

"For 30 years, the error, the mistake has always been the same.... How can we trust electoral bodies that are already adulterated in themselves?" he asked.
