The presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, criticized the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, for not addressing the deaths caused by the Mozambique Republic Police (PRM) during demonstrations.
"Unfortunately, the PR went to a press conference and at no point did he acknowledge that the police's actions were wrong, that the police are murdering citizens, that the police's attitude was disproportionate," he said.
According to Mondlane, Filipe Nyusi "sponsored the murder of the Mozambican people" and promoted the continuous violation of citizens' freedoms.
Speaking in a live broadcast on Thursday, "from an uncertain location". Mondlane said that the PRM views the demonstrations as disrespectful of human rights.
"The demonstrations are being met with tear gas, real bullets, assassinations, manipulations, threats, kidnappings and abductions," he said.
The Mozambican Association of Doctors said this week that according to the findings of the shooting victims admitted to Maputo Central Hospital, the police shot with intent to kill. Around ten people were shot dead during the demonstrations.
Recently, government spokesman Filimão Suaze said there was a need to investigate whether third parties had infiltrated the demonstrations and fired real bullets at protesters, before attributing the lethal bullets to the police.
