"Omicron variant should not be classified as mild," - WHO

The multiplication of covid-19 infections with Omicron is putting the World Health Organization (WHO) on alert and has already led health authorities to issue a warning: the new variant may be milder in symptoms, but no less serious.

The WHO reminds us that the speed at which it spreads can still kill thousands of people.

According to the WHO director-general, although Omicron appears to be less severe compared to Delta, especially in vaccinees, that does not mean it should be classified as mild.

"Omicron is hospitalizing and killing people. In fact, the tsunami of cases is so large and fast that it is overwhelming health care systems around the world," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned.
