Vandalization of infrastructure causes losses of over three million dollars to EDM in Niassa

The Electricity Company of Mozambique (EDM), in Niassa, is accumulating enormous losses as a result of sabotage and vandalism of the electricity distribution network infrastructure.

The most recent case of sabotage occurred last week in the village of Chissalanga, district of Sanga, where unknown persons brought down a medium voltage power line transmission pole with an axe.

The director of EDM, customer service area of Lichinga, Heitor Matimele added that a little all over the province, it is frequently registered the vandalizing of spikes that serve to balance the power transmission line in certain points.

It is estimated that due to these acts, last year the Mozambican electricity company in Niassa province added up a loss of more than three million meticais.

Heitor Matimele pointed to the replacement of infrastructure and paralysis in supply and billing as factors that reflect negatively on the company's coffers.

The Director of Electricity of Mozambique, Lichinga customer service area, Heitor Matimele added that these actions go back to the execution of the current project "Energy for All by the year 2030" underway in the country.
