As part of the celebrations for World Aids Day, Vale Mozambique has offered various awareness-raising materials to communities in Moatize, Tete province.
The material, consisting of T-shirts, caps and red ribbons, was delivered to the Provincial Center for the Fight against HIV/AIDS and to the District Service of Health, Women and Social Action of Moatize. The celebrations of the date this year had as their motto "End inequalities. End AIDS. End the pandemics".
Marcelino Miguel, coordinator of the Provincial Council for the Fight against HIV/AIDS, thanked the gesture, praising the support that the Vale mining company has been giving over the years in the scope of prevention and fight against the disease.
For his part, the chief physician of the District Women's Health and Social Action Service of Moatize, Luizinho Abel Culuze, considered the donation as "an important means to get the message out to the communities faster.
Pedro Carvalho, manager of Occupational Health and Hygiene at Vale, said that the offer is part of the mining company's commitment to support the government in preventing and fighting the disease. "We must join our efforts to better respond to this epidemic," he stressed.
It should be noted that December 1st was established in 1988 by the United Nations World Organization as the day dedicated to the fight against AIDS.
The purpose of the celebration is to raise awareness about the need for prevention against HIV/AIDS, the fight against prejudice and all forms of stigmatization against the victims of the disease.
