The European Union (EU) on Friday expressed its willingness to support Mozambique in the implementation of the project to build the new Mphanda Nkuwa dam in the central province of Tete.
To this end, funds are being mobilized from European banks and the World Bank (WB) to make this structuring project a reality.
According to the EU Ambassador to Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, who was speaking during the Mozambique-EU Business Forum, which took place in the city of Tete, it is the European continent's wish to assume part of the costs of building the power transmission line from the Mphanda Nkuwa power station to Maputo province.
"We are pleased with the choice of the European and Asian consortium led by the French company Electricité de France to lead the consortium with Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) for the construction of the new Mphanda Nkuwa dam," said Antonino Maggiore, quoted by Rádio Moçambique, adding that "this project could also benefit from European funding under the Global Gateway together with the European Investment Bank (EIB)."
For its part, the Mozambican government, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, highlighted HCB as an enterprise that attracts the EU.
On the occasion, she invited the ambassadors of the European countries accredited to Mozambique to mobilize more investment to boost the economy of Tete province in particular and the country in general.
"We urge and encourage the ambassadors to bring businesspeople from their respective countries to take advantage of the favorable business environment and the opportunities and potential for investment in Tete.
More than 150 entrepreneurs operating in the various sectors took part in the Forum, which ended yesterday.
