The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has distinguished Mozambique and Brazil in Education of Women and Girls.
Mozambique was distinguished with a project to empower young people in the country by forming a women's support network. And Brazil got the distinction with an initiative to train low-income women in technology and close the gender gap in the sector.
In Mozambique the recognition went to Girl Move Academy. This is a mentoring initiative for teenagers to facilitate access to education through storytelling, sisterhood circles, and a unique model of intergenerational support.
The project emphasizes leadership and uses social media to address gender norms and stereotypes by making people realize that they are harmful and prevent female people from reaching their full potential.
Recognized both for its innovative model and for its rapid adaptation to the Covid-19 pandemic through the use of low-cost technologies, the project in a phase of expansion through partnerships with national universities and other local organizations.
So far, it has encouraged more than five thousand girls to actively participate in education and society.
For its part, Brazil, in recent years, has been working to close the gap between men and women in jobs and access to technology.
The program offers training in programming and other digital skills, as well as working on women's confidence so that they can be heard in this traditionally male-dominated medium.
The initiative has already reached more than 10,000 women and girls in 18 weeks of face-to-face and online courses, with intensive training and technical events.
