UEM cuts scholarship awards by almost half

UEM reduz para quase metade a atribuição de bolsas de estudo

Last year, Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) reduced its capacity for awarding scholarships to students by 43%.

The data was released today, Friday (28), in the city of Maputo, by the rector of UEM, Manuel Guilherme Jr. during the presentation of the 2023 report.

According to the rector of the largest and oldest institution of higher education, the main reason for this reduction is linked to the fact that the largest source of funding for scholarships is the state budget.

"As is publicly known, the state is facing very demanding budgetary challenges, and the other sources continue to be initiatives from our partners," explained Guilherme Jr., stressing that, "unfortunately, this scenario is likely to prevail in subsequent years, including this year, 2024."
