EU disburses new tranche of 1.5 billion euros in aid to Ukraine

The European Union (EU) has today disbursed another 1.5 billion euro installment of the macro-financial assistance package (MFA+) to Ukraine set for this year.

The MFA+ package, with a total value of up to 18,000 ME in 2023, is intended to help Ukraine ensure macroeconomic stability and restore critical infrastructure, such as the energy infrastructure destroyed by Russia's war of invasion on February 24, 2022.

The money, according to the EU, quoted by Lusa, is also intended to help Kiev continue to pay salaries and pensions and maintain essential public services such as hospitals, schools and housing for displaced people.

It will also allow Ukraine to repair water supply systems, transport networks, roads and bridges.

Today's payment comes after the European Commission's latest assessment found that Ukraine has continued to make satisfactory progress towards implementing the agreed policy conditions and has complied with the reporting requirements, which aim to ensure the transparent and efficient use of funds.
