The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has caused the Ukrainian government to be forced to call in military service in the defense of the country, a measure that will force companies to lay off their workers. Writes the News to the Minute.
Aware of this need, Tesla announced that it will ensure the payment of its Ukrainian employees called to fight in the war. This payment (as well as the job) will be secured for a period of three months, Elon Musk's company explains in a statement.
The announcement was made to all Tesla workers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and it is unknown at this time whether the benefit will also extend to workers in North America and other regions.
"For any Tesla employee who is a Ukrainian citizen and who has been asked to return to Ukraine for active service as a military officer, we will retain his or her employment and salary for 3 months, with the possibility of reassessment after that period as needed," the company statement can be read.
It should be noted that Tesla is not the only company guaranteeing workers' jobs and income during this conflict. A IKEA has also announced similar measures with a direct impact on 15,000 employees.
