Ukraine Asks G20 for More Funds to Guarantee Basic Services

Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko urged G20 countries to hand over part of their resources - in whatever form - to the Ukrainian government so that Kiev can work at full capacity and continue to guarantee necessary services to its embattled population, according to "Reuters".

"Not all of those present at the session are donor states. But they have all received Special Drawing Rights [SDR] from the International Monetary Fund [IMF]. And if they transfer at least 10% of them to Ukraine, that would mean a lot to us," Marchenko said during the G20 session in Washington in the presence of the group's finance ministers and central bank governors.

Marchenko described the events in Ukraine as a "global crisis" and called on the West to help the country.

In the governor's words, external support and financing will help normalize the country's economic situation.

According to Marchenko, the Ukrainian budget is fully focused on covering humanitarian and social expenditures and supporting vulnerable population groups.

In August last year, the IMF allocated Special Drawing Rights [SDR] equivalent to $650 billion, with Ukraine receiving over $2.7 billion ($1.9 billion in SDR) in accordance with its IMF quota.
