TVM without funds to broadcast the Ivorian CAN

TVM sem fundos para transmissão do CAN da Costa de Marfim

Televisão de Moçambique (TVM) says it doesn't have the funds to broadcast Africa's biggest sporting event (CAN-2023), which kicks off on the 13th of this month in Ivory Coast.

In total, TVM needs around 400,000 dollars to guarantee the broadcasting of all the matches in the African soccer championship.
"Due to the social dimension of the CAN, the associated competitions and the fact that it does not have the financial capacity, Televisão de Moçambique -EP, is requesting support from the Mozambican government to acquire the broadcasting rights valued at 400,000 dollars (320,000 of the rights and 80,000 of the release fee) according to the contract sent by the rights holder in the annex," reads the TVM statement quoted by the Integrity portal.
The document in question was sent to the Ministry of Economy and Finance this month, but according to sources, a response is still awaited from the department headed by Minister Max Tonela.
The national soccer team is currently carrying out a competitive training camp in neighboring South Africa with a view to taking part in Africa's biggest sporting event, 13 years after they were there.
It is known that Mozambique is in group B, which also includes Egypt, Ghana and Cape Verde.
