This Wednesday in Maputo, the Renamo party accused the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) of deliberately changing the names on the voter registration lists to benefit the Frelimo party and called on them to change their "fraudulent" stance.
"We have name problems here. This has nothing to do with rain, and it's a practice that always happens, done on purpose, to harm [the opposition]. That's why we're calling on them to be more responsible. The electoral bodies, the CNE and the central STAE should be more active. When there is a complaint like that, they should be more active and proactive in solving the problem," said Glória Salvador, the Renamo party's national representative.
She was speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of the new voter registration calendar amended by parliament. On the occasion, she said that this phenomenon is more noticeable in the municipalities in the central and northern areas of the country.

"Almost all the municipalities were affected, especially those in the north and center. What is happening is that the electoral roll, which cannot be changed, is already circulating within the Frelimo party. And there are already records where they even take children who are not old enough to register, damaging those who have cards. This practice must be stopped," he said.
The Renamo leader also called on the electoral administration bodies to guarantee quality training for brigades and civic agents. According to her, poor training means that they spread incomplete or distorted messages to the communities.
Voter registration dates were changed to avoid activities taking place at the height of the rainy season.
"We're still in the middle of a lot of rain. But at least the population will be out of the fields and concentrated, and by the time the census is over the rain will have stopped. That's the biggest gain for the population," he said.
According to the STAE, the display of the electoral roll with the names of those registered will take place between April 30 and May 3, 2024, after the end of registration, in Portugal and abroad.
Even so, Renamo expects fraud to occur "because STAE is biased". In the party's view, it is on the electoral roll that people who are not legitimized to vote in the elections are included, and they end up creating fraud at the polls.
