TAP crew members go on strike for five days until January 31

TAP crew members are going on strike for five days until January 31, with dates still to be set. The company's new proposal received 615 votes against, six votes in favor and one abstention.

This morning's general assembly of crew members rejected the latest proposal by Portuguese airline TAP for a new company agreement.

According to figures from the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC), the company's proposal received 615 votes against, six votes in favor and one abstention.
The crew will therefore go on strike for five days, with dates still to be set, and the protest will run until January 31.

After the strike on December 8 and 9, negotiations continued between the company and SNPVAC and TAP presented a new proposal to the crew, which was not enough to stop the strike.

In a statement to members about the general meeting, the SNPVAC had already made it known that it "does not follow the CEO's enthusiasm", which it hoped would stop the strike. However, the union representing cabin crew acknowledges that "the meetings have taken place on the basis of dialogue, with the normal advances and setbacks of these negotiations".

Wages are the main issue separating TAP from its crew. The workers still have a pay cut of 25% above 1,410 euros and accuse the company of calculating the new salaries based on the figures with the cuts and not on the amounts paid before the Emergency Agreement.

TAP's proposal was voted on by the crew at a time when the controversy over the 500,000 euro compensation paid to former administrator Alexandra Reis is raging. "It's frustrating for us to be in negotiations with the company and, despite the efforts that have been made, then see this news," said SNPVAC president Ricardo Penarróias, speaking to CNN Portugal. "The rigidity that the company has, the tutelage that constantly defends itself with the restructuring plan, but in reality, and at the end of the day, we are discussing pennies for others to make millions," he added.

During the crew strike that took place on December 8 and 9, TAP canceled 360 flights, causing a loss of 8 million euros in revenue.
