Court releases MDM members and postpones trial

Tribunal liberta membros do MDM e adia julgamento

The judge of the First Section of the Beira City Court, Tomé Valente, granted three members of the MDM their freedom under an identity and residence permit on Friday morning, September 29.

At the same time, the judge postponed the trial until next Tuesday, October 3.

"They are good citizens and live in this city. They haven't killed anyone. I think they can wait in freedom, so that we can also prepare ourselves," said the judge of the first section of the Beira Judicial Court, Tomé Valente, recognizing the need for time to study the case.

The three MDM members were recently arrested on charges of kidnapping and illegal detention.

The defendants' lawyer, Eliseu de Sousa, believes that the accusers have acted in bad faith, since the alleged kidnapper is of legal age and has not reported this action to any institution for the administration of justice. Even so, the police arrested the MDM party cadres.

The trial resumes on October 3rd.
