Maputo court releases citizens arrested during election protests

The Maputo City Judicial Court has just released the 17 young people arrested last Friday in Maputo City during the election protests. Among the detainees are citizens aged between 17 and 45.

Accompanying the trial of the detainees, who are accused of committing acts of vandalism, was the Renamo party's leader, Venâncio Mondlane.

Charges of association to obstruct the public highway and possession of homemade bombs have been brought against them.

The hearing was closed to the press.

On Monday, relatives of detained citizens told the press that their family members had been mistreated.
