The Kampfumu District Court, in Maputo city, today ordered the annulment of the elections in that municipal district due to electoral irregularities.
The polling stations in Kampfumo counted around 48,000 voters, and according to STV, there were disparities in the numbers presented in the notices. They had allegedly been falsified.
The annulment is also the result of a legal challenge filed by Renamo. The party claims that it won the elections in Maputo city with 53% votes.
The judge in the case recommends that all the members of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration in the district be held accountable.
On Tuesday afternoon, the spokesman for the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Paulo Cuinica, said that polling station staff involved in electoral misconduct would be punished appropriately.
