Three people died, dozens were injured and hundreds were arrested on Thursday (07), on a day of protest in Mozambique. The police used tear gas to disperse the thousands of demonstrators who took to the streets of Maputo at the request of the PODEMOS presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane, who is contesting the election results.

According to a RFIThe death of the three civilians was confirmed by the DECIDE Platform, which also said that there were dozens of wounded and hundreds of detainees.

The political and judicial impasse between presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane and the ruling Frelimo party led protesters to burn garbage in the streets and throw stones at the police, who responded with real bullets.

At the beginning of the week, Defense Minister Cristóvão Chume warned the demonstrators that the Armed Forces had to protect the interests of the state "in the face of this intention to change democratically established power".
