The deputy health minister, Ilesh Jani, said that the health sector was considering introducing weekly or monthly antiretroviral drugs for people living with HIV-AIDS in the country.
"There are some new drugs, there are drugs with new formulations, so it's possible to give a drug with less frequent doses. The patient will be able to take medication on a weekly or monthly basis and this type of medication is already starting to have research results, said Ilesh Jani, quoted by RM at the close of the 17th Scientific Research Conference on HIV/AIDS, yesterday in Maputo.
The Deputy Minister of Health points to the prevention of new HIV infections and the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of the virus as some of the sector's priorities.
