Seven thousand workers from the mines and two thousand from the farmas in South Africa began arriving in Mozambique yesterday, Thursday (17), in order to spend the Easter holiday with their families and friends.
According to Boaventura Manhique, a delegate from the Ministry of Labor in the Republic of South Africa (RSA), the mining companies laid off the workers on Wednesday, so that they could prepare for the trip back to Mozambique. On the same day, some Mozambicans began their journey home.
"The workers are traveling by public transport and in private vehicles to their places of origin. As a government, we are providing all the necessary assistance to the mine and smelter workers so that they have a smooth journey and can spend the Easter festivities in safety and harmony with their families," said Manhique.
Quoted by NewsThe source stressed that assistance is being provided to fellow workers in South Africa at the Ressano Garcia border crossing, Kilometer 7, at TEBA and Kilometer 4, both on the South African and Mozambican sides.
