US electric vehicle company Tesla is recalling more than 1.6 million cars for an overhaul due to problems with the driving assistance system and door locking.
This figure corresponds, according to Bloomberg, to "practically all the cars it has ever sold in China".
A statement from China's National Administration of Market Regulation (SAMR), quoted by some specialized websites, indicates that the affected vehicles include the Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y.
Most of the cars recalled have a problem with the power steering function that could cause the driver to use the driving assistance systems incorrectly, which would increase the risk of accidents, the Chinese organization explained.
A further 7,538 vehicles were affected by problems with locking the doors in the event of a collision.
In both cases, Tesla will correct the errors through free software updates, the company says.
