Terrorists want to avenge the death of their leader with new attacks

Terroristas querem vingar–se da morte do seu líder com novos ataques

In a two-minute and 51-second video released by one of their propaganda channels, the terrorists, who claim the death of their leader Abu Al-ussein Al-Quraishi, threaten to carry out new attacks in the coming days in Cabo Delgado and elsewhere.

According to the newspaper "Carta", the protagonist of the video, who speaks in Kiswahili, a language often used by terrorists, warns that the group will take revenge for the death of its leader by increasing new attacks against those he calls "Christians".

"Carta" also notes that in the video, as well as swearing an oath of loyalty to their leader, the terrorists appear in a military training session, showing off not only war techniques but also weapons.

It should be noted that the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces and their allies from Rwanda and the SADC military mission have been working since January 1 along the Messalo River to deactivate terrorist hideouts.

A military source quoted by the same newspaper said that two bases, one serving as a training site and the other for holding hostages, had been identified by the forces leading Operation Volcano IV in a region between the districts of Muidumbe and Macomia.

The Minister of National Defense, Major General Cristóvão Artur Chume, together with the Army Commander, Major General Tiago Alberto Nampele, visited the Rwandan Security Forces (RSF) operating in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province, last Thursday (5).

During his visit, the minister praised the significant improvement in the security situation in Cabo Delgado province and visited several defensive positions of former terrorists, including Awasse and the commercial port of Mocímboa da Praia.

He also welcomed the existing cooperation between Rwandan, Mozambican and SAMIM forces, including the recent "Volcano IV" operation, which successfully dislodged remnants of the Ansar Al Sunna terrorist group from their new hideouts along the Messalo River in the districts of Muidumbe and Macomia.

Minister Chume commanded the Army branch of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique during the initial counter-terrorism operations with RSF in July 2021(Letter)
