"Terrorists are leaving Cabo Delgado" - Filipe Nyusi

“Terroristas estão a abandonar Cabo Delgado” – Filipe Nyusi

The terrorist groups that have been decimating lives in some districts of Cabo Delgado since October 2017 are already leaving the province, Filipe Nyusi, the former President of the Republic, said yesterday.

"Just this morning, I held a meeting with the Defense and Security Forces, and we had good news: the terrorists have been completely dismantled, some are leaving the country," said Nyusi, in his last speech as PR, at the inauguration ceremony of Daniel Chapo as the 5th PR of Mozambique.

According to Nyusi, terrorism was one of the phenomena that challenged his two terms as president, as it caused thousands of deaths and curtailed national and international investment in the country.

The former President called on terrorists to return to their communities without fear of stigma or persecution.

"I want to appeal once again, give yourselves up. Mozambicans don't have permanent eyes. Surrender those who want to leave, because they've already let us know that they want to leave," he appealed, assuring that "there will be no reprisals. You can go. Join the families. We will welcome you.

On that occasion, he thanked the armed forces for their willingness to fight terrorism together with partner forces such as SAMIM-SADC.
