Terrorismo: PRM liberta activista detido ilegalmente por cinco meses

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have released social activist Anli Saíde, after he was illegally detained and held for five months.

The arrest took place on April 20, in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province. He had been accused of cooperating with terrorists.

According to the monthly report by the Mozambican Network of Human Rights Defenders (RMDDH), during the time he was detained, Saíde remained in degrading conditions and without proper assistance. He also "did not have access to lawyers during the preliminary stages of the process".

"In these circumstances, the RMDDH, in coordination with the CNDH [National Commission for Human Rights], called in the IPAJ [Institute for Sponsorship and Legal Assistance] to guarantee the appointment of a public defender. Regular visits were made to the prison and contact was established with the Prison Directorate, IPAJ and the detainee's family to safeguard his fundamental rights. This institutional monitoring aimed to guarantee effective access to justice, in accordance with national and international human rights standards. As a result of the monitoring and the absence of consistent evidence, the individual was released on September 18, 2025," writes the RMDDH.
