The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, revealed yesterday (20) that the situation of Islamic terrorism that has affected the northern province of Cabo Delgado since 2017 is relatively under control, highlighting the return of the population to their origins.
"Mozambique is doing well, conditioned by terrorism in some regions of Cabo Delgado province, where the situation is relatively better compared to 2018 to 2023. The populations are returning to their origins, namely to the districts of Mocímboa da Praia, Palma, Macomia, among others, which suffered terrorist incursions," said Nyusi.
According to the Mozambican head of state, who was speaking during an audience granted to a North American delegation responsible for nature conservation, called the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF-Group), visiting our country, despite this relative stability, the pursuit of terrorists continues in order to guarantee the normal life of the population.
"The pursuit of terrorists continues and is currently being carried out by the Mozambican Defence and Security Forces, supported by their counterparts from the Republic of Rwanda," he emphasized.
The province of Cabo Delgado has been facing terrorist attacks for more than six years, which have led to a military response since July 2021, with support from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community, liberating districts, especially near gas projects.
However, after a period of relative stability, new attacks and movements were recorded at the beginning of this year, leading foreign entities to restrict travel to northern Mozambique.
