Terrorists attacked last Friday night, 2, the village of Kútua, in the district of Eráti, in what is seen by some analysts, as a new front that the jihadists are trying to open in the province of Nampula, which borders Cabo Delgado.
Public television, TVM, showed this Sunday, the 4th, images of houses, schools, health units and other infrastructure destroyed during the attack, the first on that district.
For analyst Fernando Lima, this attack may mean that the terrorists intend to open a new front, "because sleeper cells of jihadists are known in Nampula, and also some districts of this province are known to be a large recruitment base for jihadism, namely, Memba, Angoche, and Nacala.
In Kútua, the attackers have not claimed any victims, which for Fernando Lima may correspond to the fact that it is an area where there are sleeper cells, "and because of this, it would be counterproductive to claim victims in their own places where they may have popular support.
For his part, analyst Lucas Ubisse believes that the attack on Kútua is part of the terrorists' efforts to expand their actions to other Mozambican provinces.
"Clearly, this is a new front that the terrorists are opening," that analyst stressed to VOA.
However, for analyst Moisés Mabunda, it cannot yet be assumed that this is a jihadist attack on Eráti. Mabunda said that the district administrator said it was an attack carried out by opportunists.
