Terrorism: Five FADM soldiers killed in Muidumbe district

Five soldiers from the Mozambique Armed Defense Forces (FADM) were killed in an ambush set up by violent extremists in Mandava village, in Muidumbe district, north of Cabo Delgado. In addition to the dead, several soldiers were wounded.

According to information provided by the Center for Democracy and Development (CDD), the ambush took place at around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning (30.04) and targeted a military vehicle that had left the village of Muambula, where it had gone to load supplies for a contingent of the FADM stationed in the district of Muidumbe.

Local sources quoted by CDD say that for the last seven days the lower Muidumbe area has been the scene of heavy clashes between violent extremists and the Defense and Security Forces, supported by members of the Local Force.

A military ambulance escorted by Botswana troops was seen leaving the Mueda district in the direction of Muidumbe, where it is believed it was going to rescue soldiers injured in clashes with violent extremists.

It should be remembered that two weeks ago, Muidumbe was the target of an attack by violent extremists, which resulted in the deaths of at least four people and six wounded, all hit by gunfire.
