Nyusi's third term is still not an issue in the party - Former Combatants

Terceiro mandato de Nyusi ainda não é assunto no partido – Antigos combatentes

A candidacy for the third presidential term of the current President of the Republic and the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo), Filipe Nyusi, is not yet the subject of discussion in the party, because there is no manifestation of interest by the President, according to the Secretary General of the Association of Combatants of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN).

"At no time has he [Filipe Nyusi] expressed this interest," Faustino said, stressing that it was the first time he had heard of the possibility of a third term for Nyusi, when questioned by the press on the subject.

Quoted yesterday by STV, Fernando Faustino said that the will expressed by the Organization of Mozambican Youth (OJM) - the 'youth' arm of the party - in favor of a third candidacy for Nyusi should be explained by the group itself.

"I think President Nyusi's concern is not to continue with a third, fourth, or fifth term, but to end the insurgents in Cabo Delgado, the hunger and cost of living in Mozambique. Ask OJM what he was inspired to say that," remarked the ACLLN SG.

Regarding the order of the Minister of State Administration and Civil Service, Ana Comoane, to prioritize access to employment for the children of combatants, Faustino said this is not a problem at all, in a country where there are many graduates without jobs.

"My concern is that children of the combatants and all other Mozambicans have jobs. We have a lot of young people who have already taken their courses, but at this moment they don't have their jobs," he said.
