Assassination attempt: Venâncio Mondlane says he doesn't feel intimidated

Tentativa de assassinato: Venâncio Mondlane diz não se sentir intimidado

The independent candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Venâncio Mondlane, says he is not intimidated by the assassination attempt he was the victim of on Sunday (18) in the village of Quissico, Zavala district, Inhambane province.

"This was clearly a failed attempt to assassinate the people's candidate at this time. And we will continue to work. We're not going to be intimidated by this," he said, after leaving the provincial prosecutor's office, where he made a statement. He was in the company of the delegation from the Democratic Alliance Coalition (CAD) in Inhambane, which handed over the weapon that would be used to martyr him.

During his statements, he stressed that he will continue to work "more and more intensely" because the mission is "greater than our fear". He said that the fight will be to defend the normal rule of law. "That's why our pillar is the reform of the state and governance."

Venâncio Mondlane said that he had contacted the Attorney General "so that she understands to what extent they want to collaborate with the parties". Even so, he assumes that the Mozambican justice system is infiltrated by criminals.
