Tension in Ukraine: Negotiations with Moscow are "extremely difficult

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak, believes that negotiations with Moscow to secure a Russian-Ukrainian peace agreement are "extremely difficult." Podoliak made this pronouncement after Vladimir Putin denounced the "lack of coherence" of the Ukrainians.

"The negotiations are extremely difficult," Podoliak indicated in a message to the 'media', while regretting that "the Russian side maintains its traditional tactics of public pressure on the negotiation process, in particular through certain statements."

"It is obvious that the emotional side in the process is very significant today," he commented, while specifying that "the Ukrainian delegation works exclusively in a pro-Ukrainian and transparent framework."

The discussions between the two parties will continue "in a virtual way," Mykhailo Podoliak specified.

According to Ukrainian authorities, cited by Lusa, hundreds of civilian bodies have been detected in recent days in the villages around Kiev, including Bucha and Iprin, after the withdrawal of Russian troops from this region at the end of March.

Moscow denies any involvement and refers to a "staging" orchestrated by the Ukrainians and aimed at offending the Russian side.

Shortly before these statements, Russian President Vladimir Putin had denounced the "lack of coherence" of the Ukrainian negotiators who, in his view, are preventing an agreement between Kiev and Moscow to end the Russian offensive in Ukraine.

"There is no doubt [that Russian objectives will be realized], they are absolutely clear and noble (...). The main objective is to help the people of the Donbass," in eastern Ukraine, where the self-proclaimed Russian People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk are located, he reaffirmed, during a trip to the Russian Far East.
