The authorities in Maputo province are on high alert to prevent loss of human life and material damage due to the occurrence of severe tropical storm Filipo, which has already injured seven people and caused a trail of destruction to infrastructure in Inhambane province.
According to the National Meteorological Institute (INAM), the phenomenon could affect Maputo province today, Wednesday (13), causing winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain.
At risk of being severely affected by the phenomenon are the districts of Manhiça and Magude.
The delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) in Maputo, Sara Matches, explained that in view of this alert, the institution is ready to respond to any eventuality.
"Since the alert was declared, civil protection units have been activated and we have also pre-positioned food products in the districts of Moamba, Magude, Matutuine and Namaacha to the tune of 13 tons each," said the delegate, quoted by the Radio Mozambique.
In this context, Sara Matshes calls on the communities living in the districts that could be affected by this phenomenon to take precautionary measures and follow INAMI's recommendations in order to prevent further damage.
