Portuguese airline TAP is the sixth safest airline in the world, in a ranking headed by Quantas, according to data published yesterday by Airlineratings.com, which monitors the performance of carriers in this area.
In an article published yesterday on its website, the organization, which rates airlines, revealed that its top 20 for this year includes TAP in sixth place.
The ranking is led by Qantas, Air New Zealand and Etihad Airways, followed by Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Emirates, Alaska Airlines, EVA Air, Virgin Australia/Atlantic, Cathay Pacific Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, SAS, United Airlines, Lufthansa/Swiss Group, Finnair, British Airways, KLM, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, he said.
According to the director of Airlineratings.com, Geoffrey Thomas, quoted in the same article and by Lusa, "these airlines stand out in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation and the launch of new planes".
According to him, this ranking is based on an analysis of "accidents over five years, serious incidents over two years", as well as audits by the entities that lead the sector and associations.
The age of the fleet, expert analysis of pilot training and Covid-19 protocols in their activity are also analyzed.
"However, all airlines have incidents every day, and many are due to aircraft or engine manufacturing issues, rather than airline operational problems. It's how the crew deals with these incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one," according to Geoffrey Thomas.
