The health authorities in Sofala say that the cholera situation, which has been ravaging five districts in the province since the end of last year, is now under control.

According to the provincial director of Health in Sofala, Neusa Joel, who was speaking during a visit by the president of the provincial assembly, as of Monday, the province had a total of 1,170 cases and one hospitalization due to the disease.

Even so, the source, quoted by Rádio Moçambique, explained that even though the situation is under control, the sector is continuing to intensify efforts to raise awareness among communities to prevent and combat the disease.

"We are now seeing a downward trend in new cases in our health units. We are currently hospitalized in the district of Marínguè, and we are mobilizing vaccines to cover the other districts where vaccination against cholera has not been carried out," said Neusa Joel.

On the occasion, the president of the Sofala provincial assembly, Antónia Charre, encouraged the health sector to continue working to prevent the spread of the disease.
