Spotify has revealed it will take steps to combat misinformation about covid-19 on its platform, following a boycott movement launched by 'folk-rock' legend Neil Young.
The world's number one music streamer, in particular, will include a warning on all its content that talks about covid-19, in response to criticism received for the broadcast of "The Joe Rogan Experience" program, which was noted for promoting the covid-19 conspiracy.
"We are working to add a content warning to any episode of a 'podcast' that includes a discussion on covid-19," Daniel Ek, CEO of the Swedish 'online' music and pre-recorded program giant, said in a statement detailing the company's disclosure standards.
The Swedish 'online' music giant, promises that it will direct listeners to a "covid-19 center, a resource that provides easy access to up-to-date, data-driven information shared by scientists, doctors, academics and public health authorities around the world, as well as 'links' to trusted sources."
The controversy surrounding Spotify centers on the program "The Joe Rogan Experience," considered to be the most popular 'podcast' in the United States.
The program, offered exclusively on this platform after Spotify signed Rogan for $100 million, has been criticized for promoting conspiracy theories about the coronavirus and encouraging non-vaccination.
Meanwhile, the platform's CEO also insisted this Monday on Spotify's commitment to fighting misinformation as well as education on covid-19 issues.
"We have launched various educational resources and campaigns to create awareness and have developed and promoted a global covid-19 information center," the Spotify CEO remarked.
