Sony launches new electric vehicle prototype

The company has been testing electric vehicles since December 2020 and hopes to launch its models on the market in the future.

According to Exame Magazine, at CES 2020, Sony announced the Vision-S EV, a prototype electric vehicle, which it has now launched at CES 2022, along with a new SUV concept - the Vision-S 02. The Japanese company thus makes its debut in sustainable mobility by announcing the launch of the operating company Sony Mobility Inc.

The new electric SUV seats seven people and uses various types of sensors, including CMOS imaging and LiDAR sensors for driver assistance. Inside it has time-of-flight sensors for driver authentication, gesture sensors, and voice commands.

With demonstration videos on Youtube, which include hints of the lifestyle the new vehicles provide, the company shows the design of the vehicle interior and presents tests of remote steering with 5G connection, connecting Tokyo and Germany in real time.

According to The Verge, Kenichiro Yoshida, the company's CEO, wants to "explore the commercial launch of Sony's EV" and find out how "a creative entertainment company can redefine mobility." To that end, the company is testing the vehicles on public roads, in Europe, from December 2020 and has already begun tests to verify safety and user experience with the vehicle's imaging and detection technology.
