Seventeen people lost their lives and two others are under intensive medical care at the Nhamatanda Rural Hospital, following a road accident that took place this morning in the Nhamatanda district, in Sofala province.
A source told MZNews that the victims were riding in a semi-collective passenger transport on Saturday morning along National Road Number 6 and were killed when the tire of the "chapa" burst and it crashed violently into a truck going in the opposite direction.
It has not yet been possible to identify the driver of the semi-collective passenger transport, but according to the same source, it is presumed that the cause of the accident was excessive speed combined with mechanical deficiencies.
