Tropical system Freddy has evolved into a very intense tropical cyclone, with the potential to approach the Mozambican coast, affecting the weather in the provinces of Zambézia, Sofala and Inhambane.
According to a statement from the National Meteorological Institute (INAM), in these regions the phenomenon could cause heavy rain and wind, accompanied by severe thunderstorms.
The phenomenon continues to move towards the east coast of Madagascar, and the epicentre is expected to reach the Malagasy mainland by the end of Tuesday.
And on Wednesday the same system could enter the Mozambique Channel, which could affect maritime navigation, with stormy winds, the INAM statement said.
