4.4 magnitude earthquake hits off Mozambique's coast

Off the coast of Mozambique was the center of an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale on Tuesday night, which, however, caused no damage to the population, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), cited by the Observer.

The source reports that the earthquake epicenter was 10 kilometers below the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

When the earthquake happened under the Mozambique Channel it was around 10:33 pm. It is said to have occurred between the coast of Nampula province and the island of Madagascar.

The nearest town was Angoche, a coastal town and district headquarters, about 148 kilometers from the epicenter.
