Sernic arrests sea cucumber traffickers in Cabo Delgado

Sernic detém traficantes de pepinos-do-mar em Cabo Delgado

Two citizens have been arrested in Ancuabe district, Cabo Delgado province, for illegally transporting 432 kilograms of sea cucumbers. The arrest was made by the Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC). They were questioned at the Silva Macua checkpoint.

The Mozambican citizens were trafficking the marine animal species at the behest of a Chinese businessman in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in the same province, according to the voaportugues portal.

SERNIC is taking steps to arrest the foreign businessman, who is on the run and in an unknown location.

SERNIC's spokesperson in the province, Noémia João, said that the citizens did not have a license to exploit marine resources. She called on the population to collaborate with the authorities, as happened in this case.
