Six ministers join the new Frelimo Central Committee

Six ministers of the current government were elected among the new members of the Frelimo Central Committee, the ruling party announced today.

Among the new members, elected on Monday, are Adriano Maleiane (Prime Minister), Max Tonela (Economy and Finance), Helena Kida (Justice), Ana Comoana (State Administration and Civil Service) Josefina Mpelo (Combatants) and Eldevina Materula (Culture and Tourism).

Among the new members are Jacinto Nyusi, eldest son of the current head of state, N'aite Chissano, son of former President of the Republic Joaquim Chissano, as well as Alberto Chipande Junior, son of former defense minister and historical Frelimo member Alberto Chipande.

At this congress, the new arrangement of the body came into effect, which grew from 230 to 250 militants and determines that 60% carry over from the previous term and 40% enter the body for the first time.

During the main meeting, 81 members were also elected, most of whom had already been elected before the congress was held, during the provincial conferences held earlier this month.

Today, shortly, the 12th Congress will elect the secretary-general of the Frelimo party, the Political Commission and the Verification Committee, which is the party's discipline body.
