SADC calls for peaceful resolution of post-election conflicts in Mozambique

SADC apela à resolução pacífica de conflitos pós-eleitorais em Moçambique

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has expressed its openness to supporting Mozambique in the peaceful resolution of post-election conflicts, according to the President of the Republic.

Speaking to the press after the end of the Extraordinary Summit yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe, Nyusi said that the bloc regrets the deaths, vandalization of infrastructure and blocking of cross-border traffic.

To the leaders of the bloc, Nyusi said that there were internal initiatives to put an end to the situation, including the openness he had already expressed to talking to the four presidential candidates.

"We [also] inform you that we will continue to be open to dialog with society as a whole, as has been our tradition, in the search for harmonious solutions that will help us restore confidence in the country," he said.

He assured, however, that he would not allow the country to be controlled by people in the diaspora.

In addition to recognizing the legitimacy of the concerns, he said that the solution to the problems lies in peaceful coexistence among Mozambicans.

"Together we need to identify what needs to change in order to get out of the situation of violence that is regressing the economy," he said. (Source: News)
